Tangible Tips for Overwhelmingly Busy Days

We all have days or weeks when our schedule is packed, and it can feel like we don't have a moment to breathe. However, it's crucial to take care of our mental health and well-being, even during the busiest times. In this blog post, I share four tangible tips that you can use to keep your cool on the busiest of days.

Tip One: Realistically Evaluate Your Schedule and Make Adjustments

The first step in managing a packed schedule is to realistically evaluate it. Take a look at your schedule and see if there is anything that can be moved. Can you postpone a meeting or reschedule it for another week? Maybe a networking event or coffee date with a friend can be postponed. Or can you skip a certain event or activity like your kid’s basketball game? (Or maybe you stay in the car an extra 30 minutes to give yourself a break before coming to the game.) It's essential to be honest with yourself and prioritize what is most important.

Tip Two: Prioritize Your Sleep

Sleep is crucial for our physical and mental well-being. During busy weeks, it's even more important to prioritize your sleep. Try to wind down and get to bed at a reasonable hour, or take a power nap if that works for you. Avoid scrolling on your phone for hours before bed and instead focus on getting some gentle movement to help you sleep better.

Tip Three: Take Time to Pause

No matter how busy your day is, you can always take a few seconds to pause and shift into being mode. Take a deep breath and be present in the moment. You can also use stickers or reminders to help you remember to take a pause throughout the day.

Tip Four: Bring in Props

On really busy days, it's essential to have some props to help you manage your stress and fatigue. You can use essential oils to ground you with your sense of smell. Or I like to keep a mantra book or poem close by to read some positive affirmations. Don't be afraid to keep props like this nearby that work for you and helps you feel calmer.

In conclusion, managing a busy schedule can be challenging and sometimes inevitable. But it's crucial to prioritize our mental health and well-being. By realistically evaluating our schedule, prioritizing sleep, taking time to pause, bringing in props, and practicing self-compassion, we can stay calm and keep our cool even on the busiest of days.
