How therapy can help a type A high achiever

This blog post is inspired by the Episode Four of the Awaken with Maria Serbus podcast.

Therapy can be scary. Especially if you’ve never done it before, don’t know anyone personally who has tried therapy, and you don’t know where to start! Quite frankly, it can be easier to think.. maybe I’d rather avoid this! I get it.

Also, let’s be frank. There is still a stigma around having problems with managing mental health. We worry people may think “I’m Crazy.” I hate using that word. Let’s face it- we all have our “stuff” and I’m learning to bring mine to light to help others.

Truth: mental health is an EVERYONE thing. We ALL have it. No weakness in finding tools to manage it!

Truth: therapy can be for everyone. Ever wish you just had a gal pal you could vent to, who is paid to listen to you, and help you untangle your mind, help you find strategies & tools to be more successful & coach you through the tough times?

Insert - THERAPY! Now, there is NO one size fits all. Each therapist has different credentials, education, certifications and specialty areas. You can also find mental health support through others - it may be a therapist, it may be a chaplain or local pastor, or a holistic occupational therapist with mental health certifications (insert, ME!). Do your research on the person, their background and specialties, look up reviews, and many will let you schedule a discovery call to meet to see if you’d be a good fit.

Truth: not everyone may be ready for therapy right now. That’s totally cool. But if you’re curious about learning more about it, this is to help decrease the stigma around wanting to work with a therapist!

In conclusion, you don’t need to have a mental illness to benefit from working with a therapist or holistic coach. Finding a good fit for you is KEY so do your research!
