Real Leadership Conversations with the Emily Watkins

Collaboration over Competition & Women’s Empowerment

🎙️ This blog post is part of our podcast show notes collection with the Unleash Your Potential Podcast on Spotify and Apple.

I am so excited to introduce you to my guest on the podcast today, Emily Watkins.

Hey there, it's Maria Serbus, and welcome back to another empowering episode of "Unleash Your Potential." Today, I had the pleasure of chatting with the inspiring Emily Watkins, owner, editor, and publisher of Rochester Women's Magazine. Emily's journey from owning a fitness studio to taking over the magazine is a testament to her leadership prowess and unwavering dedication to empowering women.

In this insightful episode, Emily and I delved into the importance of staying authentic and embracing our humanness as leaders. We share many real moments in this episode as a reminder and testament as women leaders to find the balance between professionalism and embracing our true selves and just “being real” and authentic.

One of the key takeaways from our conversation was the notion that failure is not a setback, but rather an opportunity for learning and building confidence. Emily emphasized the importance of following our feeling of alignment, using it as a compass to determine our path in life and work. We discussed the significance of having the tools to quiet doubts and fears, and truly listen to our authentic selves, even if it means deviating from traditional expectations.

Emily also shared insights on connecting with Rochester Women's Magazine and its events, encouraging our listeners to check out their events, blog, and more as they aim to bring a diverse group of women together to build community and empower one another!

Furthermore, we delved into the mission of Rochester Women's Magazine, focusing on collaboration and support among women, rather than fostering a competitive environment. Emily spoke about her experience managing a team at the fitness studio, honing her leadership skills and developing a passion for uplifting women.

We also explored the challenges faced by female leaders in maintaining humility while confidently leading and shining their light. Both Emily and I shared personal stories of impactful teachers and roommates who influenced our confidence and personal growth and discussed the ripple effect of shining brightly and giving others permission to do the same.

I encourage you to tune in to this episode, embrace your authentic self, and be inspired to unleash your leadership potential.

Thank you for joining me on this enriching journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Stay tuned for more inspiring episodes on "Unleash Your Potential."
